Be Dear to Me30

Image via Wikipedia

En trötthet inom mig

Tomhet utan slut

kärlek utan känslor

Ett böljande hav

av hat

Var tog du vägen,

mitt glada jag?

Trötta ögon

trötta tårar

Tårar som vägrar sluta

En tomhet som ingen ser

Ingen tid att förlora

innan slutet ger döden

ett varmt välkomnande

Undrar om Gud har en plats ledig?

Men, Mor du får

vänta ett tag till.

Har du tålamod,

ett litet tag till?

Jag är inte färdig än!

1 Kings 17:1 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "[As] the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word." 2 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

3 "Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

4 "And it will be [that] you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there."

5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

9 "Arise, go to Zarephath , which [belongs] to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you."

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath . And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow [was] there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, "Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink."

11 And as she was going to get [it], he called to her and said, "Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand."

12 So she said, "As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I [am] gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die."

13 And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go [and] do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring [it] to me; and afterward make [some] for yourself and your son.

14 "For thus says the Lord God of Israel: `The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.' "

15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for [many] days. 1

6 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.

17 Now it happened after these things [that] the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him.

18 So she said to Elijah, "What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?" '

19 And he said to her, "Give me your son." So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed.

20 Then he cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?"

21 And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him."

22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives!" 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now by this I know that you [are] a man of God, [and] that the word of the Lord in your mouth [is] the truth."

In this passage of Scripture we see that God will meet you in the trenches of life and touch you where you hurt the most.

In this passage we see that she was blessed by believing. When someone will believe God to do great things, He will use that to draw lost people to Himself.

Illus-- In Franklin Graham’s autobiography he tells of his struggles as the son of world renown evangelist, Billy Graham. I was intrigued at how God opened up his heart to receive Christ into his life. One of the incidences that made an impact on him occurred when he was

19. He had taken a semester out of college in the fall of 1971 to do some mission work in Mathrov, Jordan. He enjoyed the adventure of being in a foreign country, but he really had no interest in the Lord’s work. He said that he would spend the evenings on the roof of one the buildings in the desert, smoking his ceigarettes, drinking from a bottle of scotch, and listening to his brand of music on the voice of America radio. Every Friday the missionaries and workers would gather together to pray for the needs of the mission. He was amazed at how specifically that they would pray. Aileen and Eleanor were two of the missionaries that worked in the mission hospital.

One Friday they prayed telling the Lord that in order to keep operating they needed exactly $1355.00. As they prayed they also reminded the Lord that it was His work and His name that was on the line. It was also their particular practice never to tell people of the outside world about their needs. They simply prayed and trusted God to do the rest. Franklin was amazed the next week when Aileen and Eleanor received a letter from a person stating that they felt led to support the work of the hospital in Mathrov in the great work they were doing. Enclosed was a check written out in the amount of $1355.00. God had provided. Franklin stated that he witnessed God time and time again answer the specific prayers of the missionaries.

SHE WAS:

I. SURROUNDED BY PRESSING CIRCUMSTANCES

The whole region was in a famine. People were on the verge of starvation.

Why? Ahab had:

         A. Rejected the Man of God

         B. Rejected the Word of God

         C. Rejected the Power of God

Illus--A nation whose leadership rejects God’s men, God’s Word, God’s power will suffer judgement for it. In America what does it mean when same sex marriages are considered being legalized, marijuana is considered being legalized, killing unborn babies is legal, pedaling pornography is legal and a debate is raging about being able to assist people to commit suicide. I believe it means that somewhere along the way we have rejected the men of God, the Word of God, and the Power of God. We are seeing the fulfillment of the O.T. prophesy that there would come a time when men will call evil good and good evil.

PostHeaderIcon Life-Time Double-Shot Arcade Basketball System Review

A basketball arcade machine at NBA City Store.

Image via Wikipedia

If you're looking for a fun game to complete your games room - that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike - then an system could be just the thing. There are a huge number of these products available on the market, but the Lifetime Double-Shot Arcade Basketball System comes with a couple of important differences: it's designed to last for many years, and it uses an infrared scoring system instead of the traditional clicker scoring systems that don't always register each shot correctly.

Features Of The Lifetime Double-Shot Arcade Basketball System

* Optical scoring sensors,
* Adjustable-height backboard (82-90 inches),
* Folds up for storage,
* Two players can compete side by side,
* Includes 7 balls,
* Plugs into a standard
electrical socket,
* Features a range of
sound effects and games

Is The Lifetime Double-Shot Arcade Basketball System Worth Buying?

The fact that the height of the Lifetime Double-Shot Arcade Basketball System is adjustable makes it easier to fit into a range of different rooms. Even if you've got a lower ceiling, kids and adults can still play the game without any problems.

One negative point to note about the Lifetime Double-Shot is the fact that it does cost a lot - and notably more than many similar products on the market. However, for the money you're getting the superior optical scoring sensors that help keep games more accurate. Some reviewers have mentioned errors with the infrared scoring system, but these are rare faulty models. Thankfully Lifetime's customer service always makes sure that defective parts are replaced.

The construction also means that this product is likely to last a lot longer than cheaper alternatives. The hoop and frame feel so durable that you won't need to worry about shooting the balls too hard! It's made using a 1.5 inch steel tubing frame, a heavy-duty nylon canvas ramp, and can even be folded up if you ever need to store it away.

The Double-Shot does require some assembly to put together, so allow for some time before you can expect to start playing. Thankfully the instructions are good and all of the elements are marked, making it easy to put together even if you've little experience - though it is easier if you have a second person to help you out!

hobbes4In short, if you're willing to pay a little more money for a product that'll last longer than your typical toy basketball system, the Lifetime Double-Shot is well worth the money you'll spend.

PostHeaderIcon 1 John 1:3-10 Introduction

Dad coming home from the coal mines

A Lady who confessed her sin said Sin makes me feel dirty. I take several baths a day to try to feel clean on the inside.”
A man who was about to go to prison was in turmoil in his soul, he finally confessed what he had done to a minister, he said, “I just have to confess this to someone.

We are wired internally so that we cannot rest if our conscience is stained by sin. Confession is a wonderful privilege when you understand what happens when we truly confess our sin and turn in  repentance from it.

John writes and shares the evidence of a clear conscience

1 John 1:3 Fellowship with the Father

  4 Fullness of Joy

  5 Not walking in darkness

I want to have a clear conscience and a clean heart, don’t you? It is important to have a clean heart. I want to share with you from the Word of God three observations about having a clean heart which will help us to understand the joy of having a clean heart.

I. THE BLOOD OF THE SAVIOR

The reason that we can have a clean heart is because of the blood of Jesus Christ.

Notice verse 7.

Matthew 26:28

Acts 20:28

Col. 1:14

Rev. 12:11

Satan cannot stand the blood, but the saint treasures the blood.

Some have voted to exclude the mention of the blood from their hymnals, but I still like to sing:

There is power, power, wonder working power......

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus....

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins.....

You will never experience a clean heart apart from the blood of the Savior.

II. THE BARRIER OF SIN

Notice verses 8,10

There are three truths about sin that all of us need to know:

A. The Depravity of Sin--”If we say we have no sin...” vs Rom. 3:23

Illus—Michael Phelps and you race across the pacific.....don’t categorize sin!
He may swim farther and faster than you, but both of you will still drown because the distance is too great.

B. The Deception of Sin--”We decieve ourselves”

Illus--Eskimoes way of killing wolves with frozen blades. They would coat a knife blade with blood and stick it upside down in the frozen snow. The wolves will begin to lick the blood. The sharp blade slices their tongues. They end up dying drinking their own blood and don’t even realize it. This is what sin does. It deceives us until we are destroyed by our own actions.

C. The Destruction of Sin--It will eventually get your body, but it doesn’t have to get your

  soul.

Illus--Story of the Scorpion and the Turtle in Aesops fable. The Turtle gives the Scorpion a ride across a creek. Half away across the Scorpion stings the Turtle in the back of the neck. The Turtle says, Why did you do that knowing we would both drown. The Scorpion says, It’s my nature. It is the nature of sin to destroy!!

III. THE BLESSING OF SURRENDER

Notice v 9.

Our part--Confess

Give up the struggle.!

Get honest with God

God’s Part--Forgive and Cleanse

These are two powerful words.

God wants us to see sin as He sees sin.

Illus--The rattlesnake in the crib. If you saw a rattlesnake in your baby’s crib and realize it had bitten your child, what would you want to do to that snake? Kill it right? When God sees sin in our life, He sees the thing that killed his Son.

Options--Continue in guilt feeling dirty and shameful or enter into the blessing of joy of having a clean heart.

PostHeaderIcon AVOIDING SATAN’S SNARES

INTRODUCTION: I want you to think about someone this morning. For a moment, I would you to think of a person that you know who knows the Lord but got some “wrong” teaching and it has led them into error and their lives are in a mess because of it. Do you know such a person?

More than likely, most of us here today have had areas where the Lord has led us to change what we once believed concerning something we once thought the Bible taught but now it did not. Jesus had to continually confront people in his day that were taking the Old Testament and making it say things it did not say.

In Paul’s letters in the New Testament, he was constantly having to address wrong teaching that people were getting into. In the 2nd and 3rd chapter of Revelation Jesus sends messages to 7 churches and in most of those letters he addressed some kind of false teaching that was taking place. Today, let’s look at 2 Timothy chapter 2 where Paul tells Timothy how to view people who were coming under false teaching. He specifically was addressing the teaching of Hymaneus and Philetus who were teaching that the resurrection was already past and at the end of chapter 2 he says this to Timothy. (When I taught this, I actually read all of chapter 2 to set the context.)

TEXT: 2 Timothy 2:24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

TRANSITION: From the passage I have just read I want to bring to your attention three different personalities involved in this passage about delivering people out of Satan’s snares.

1. THE SERVANT OF THE LORD

A. Must not quarrel

The word refers to someone who likes to fight in a carnal way. Do you people whose goal is to win an argument and it really has nothing to do with anything else. They just thrive on strife and conflict. When a person like this is in charge, you will have nothing but strife and chaos.

ILLUS- I heard of a preacher who was in town one day and someone approached him and began giving him a piece of his mind. The preacher became very irritated and finally just decked the guy. Yeah, he punched him out right in town. Of course, it didn’t take long before the news spread. The preacher became very repentant and asked his congregation to forgive him as well as the other person involved. I guess people did think twice after that before speaking their minds with him..ha ha.

B. Must be gentle

This is a disposition of heart where a person can remain at calm within. They can stand against a storm around them without there being a storm within them.

C. Have teaching ability

The idea is that of communicating the truth of Scripture in a way that people receive the revelation from the word they need to grow. Some people can take things hard to understand and teach in a way that children can understand. Other people can take simple things and make them so complicated that professors scratch their heads. The anointing to teach means that people are able to learn. The goal is to edify not confuse...to build up faith, not to instill doubt...to help people to search the Scripture for themselves so they can learn in your absence instead of making them so afraid that they will only hear from you.

D. Patient

The word means literally to “bear evil”. In order to lead people, you have to put up with stuff. A patient attitude is so important.

ILLUS-When my children were little we had a little CD of songs sang by cartoon characters. One was a song about patience that was sung by a rabbit. The rabbit would sing the words very fast because rabbits are know for being fast. The rabbit would sing: (Say the following words quickly for more effect)

I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE PATIENCE

PATIENCE IS A WONDERFUL THING

HURRY UP, HURRY UP, HURRY UP!

GIVE ME SOME OF THAT PATIENCE STUFF

I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE PATIENCE

PATIENCE IS A WONDERFUL THING

(Then say this slowly)

Well, it doesn’t woooooorrrrrrkkkkk that waaaaaaaay does iiiiitttttttt!

Think about what God has to put up with us all. We need to have His heart for people. The reason Jesus has not yet returned is because God is patient with people and wants them to change and that is exactly what is being stated here. He wants us to be patient with people so that perhaps they will change.

E. Meek and humble

This is strength under the control of the Holy Spirit. It does not mean to be a doormat or to be wimpy, but to be led by the Spirit in what battles you will fight and how you will fight them.

ILLUS- Think of a big powerful horse that is much more powerful than the man who sits in the saddle upon it. Though this horse has the power to use to throw the rider from his back he does not. His power is under control. The horse only moves at the master’s command and does it in the way the master leads him to. This is a picture of the servant of the Lord, not that we have more power than the Lord but that we could use the power we have in wrong ways but we do not. We are to be led by the Spirit in all things in our minstries.

2. THE SOULS WHO ARE STRAYING

A. In need of instruction and correction

Paul says they need instructing. It is a picture of someone raising a child. The goal is to help the child do what is right and to understand why it is right.

B. Literally what they believe is not best for them,,,they oppose themselves as well as the truth. The middle voice of this verb means that in opposing God’s truth that these people are also opposing themselves. It can be difficult when you are trying to instruct and help someone who does not think they need help or need to change and even more that they are right when they are truly wrong. The nature of deception is that if you are deceived you don’t know it. So there has to be a breaking through of truth. What is that has to be broken through? The mental thoughts, belief, and decisions that have been made based on the lie. This requires the next word we are going to look at from the passage....

C. In need of a mindshift = repentance

The Greek word is “metanoia” which means to change the mind. Notice this is something God bestows. The goal of teaching and instructing is to bring about a change of mind and heart so that people will align with truth and enjoy the freedom that truth brings into their lives. When we realize that it is the work of God through the Holy Spirit using God’s Word that brings people to repentance then we can simply be faithful to teach the Word with the right attitude toward people knowing that God will do the rest.

D. In need of a desire to go deeper in the word (the phrase “know the truth” = they are desiring to hear and obey and are experiencing change through personal experience and interaction with God’s truth.

ILLUS-The old saying is “You can lead a horse to water but you can make him drink.” is applicable here. You can teach people God’s Word but you cannot make them desire or receive it. This is the work of the Spirit, but when the Spirit’s work is responded to by an individual then desires began to arise for truth and they begin looking for another drink from the word. This newfound desire to learn and grow is always a beautiful thing to see.

TESTIMONY-(Share a personal illustration here of someone you know that got saved and begin to be hungry for the Word and to grow. What about your own testimony....)

3. THE SNARES OF DEVIL

A. Satan’s ways are to intoxicate the minds of people...hence they have to “come to their senses and escape” which literally means “to sober up” as if they are coming out of a state of drunkenness. When people bite into deception, they increasingly become intellectually or mentally intoxicated and come under the influence of demonic powers as evidenced by the rest of the verse.

B. The word "Snare" means

-snare, trap, noose

-of snares in which birds are entangled and caught

-implies unexpectedly, suddenly, because birds and beasts are caught unawares

-a snare, i.e. whatever brings peril, loss, destruction

-of a sudden and unexpected deadly peril

-of the allurements and seductions of sin

-the allurements to sin by which the devil holds one bound

-the snares of love (Thayers Greek Lexicon)

ILLUS-The word may be a word picture referring to an ancient practice of poisoning seeds so that birds would eat them and fall asleep and then they could be taken captive. These traps are well laid by the enemy by getting a person to doubt who Jesus is and/or what Jesus has done. In the passage in question above, Paul was writing to Timothy concerning two guys who were teaching that the resurrection was already past. These deviation from truth was causing people to become bound by deception as they stepped into the devil’s trap.

C. Taken captive means to be seized alive. The devil takes people hostage when he can get them to believe his lie. All of us have to beware of this in different areas of our lives.

D. The goal of this deception is that we begin to teach for the wrong team. Paul writes “to do his will” which I believe is referring to the devil. When we believe a lie and then begin to share that lie we become a disseminator of false information and hence are sowing Satan’s lies.

TRANSITION: Folks we see in today’s study that we need an environment where we are all interested in growing in the truth of God’s Word and helping people who have stepped in the Devil’s traps. This is a picture of a fellowship of people who care about each other. If we don’t do this, then people are free to stray and head toward the destruction in their lives. When one of us is headed for a trap can affect all of us. Let me illustrate this with a little story I read that is called....

ILLUS- The Parable of the Mouse Trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

CONCLUSION: Dear friends, we are not lone rangers, we are connected together as a body of believers. We need each other. We also need to be in an environment where we are being taught and we are learning the truths of God’s word and applying them to our lives. We need accountability to one another and we must stick together and be firmly planted in God’s word rightly dividing the truth.

Remember Jesus said, If we continue in his word, then we would be disciples indeed, and we would know the truth and truth would make us free.

PostHeaderIcon YOUR FATHER’S WEALTH

On this Father’s Day, I want to talk to you about your

Father.

Would you change your father for another father if he had

more money and promised you a no-worry future?

Let me give you some bad news. There are less billionaires

to chose from today.

According to March 11, 2009 Forbes magazine, the richest

men in the world are poorer than they were last year.

Here is the story:

Last year the world had 1,125 billionaires. Today there

are 793. How $1.4 trillion vanished.

The richest people in the world have gotten poorer,

just like the rest of us. This year the world's

billionaires have an average net worth of $3 billion,

down 23% in 12 months.

The world now has 793 billionaires, down from 1,125 a year ago.

After slipping in recent years, the U.S. is regaining its

dominance as a repository of wealth. Americans

account for 44% of the money and 45% of the list's

slots, up seven and three percentage points from last

year, respectively. Bill Gates lost $18 billion but

regained his title as the world's richest man. Warren

Buffett, last year's No. 1, saw his fortune decline $25

billion as shares of Berkshire Hathaway fell nearly 50% in 12 months. Mexican telecom titan Carlos Slim Helú maintains his spot in the top three but lost $25 billion.

But let me ask you about everyone of these

billionaires. What is the extend to which they can

help you?

Food? Medical? Vacations? Houses? Cars?

Eternity?

The sad thing, is that NO ONE of these can help you

one second past death. It all ends.

But let me talk to you about one who is more wealthy

than all of these combined and whose “hand of

handouts” can reach you after death.

TEXT: Romans 8: 17 says that as “children of God, we are

heirs.”

I. THE WEALTH OF OUR FATHER.

He is the creator of the World and He is still the

Creator God as He will create a new heaven and a

new earth.

He has all the silver and gold (Haggai 2:8)

He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10)

II. THE HEART OF OUR FATHER

He wanted us in His family so badly that He sent His

son into the world that the Scripture in II Corinthians

8:9 says,

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that

though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became

poor, that you through His poverty might become

rich.”

III. THE INHERITANCE OFFERED BY OUR FATHER.

This inheritance promised definitely refers to the

future. Look at just some of the things it refers to:

* a new name (Revelation 3:12)

* a crown of gold (Revelation 4:4)

* we shall reign with Him (Revelation 20:4)

* we shall sit on His throne

* we will have a new body

* we shall inhabit a new heaven and a new earth

* we will have a new family

* we share in everything the Son has (“God has

appointed Jesus heir of all things. Hebrews 1:2)

Earthly inheritances are shared as a fraction of the

whole because the inheritance is limited. It is limited

in time and matter.

But God’s inheritance is not limited by either time or

matter; thus the inheritance is a full inheritance.

This inheritance is promised by a new covenant.

“And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new

covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those

who are called may receive the promise of the

eternal inheritance.” Hebrews 9:15

For an inheritance to be realized, one must die.

Jesus died (as the above verse said). But better than

any other inheritance possible, our testator came

back to life so we have him and all that is his. And...

This inheritance is eternal.

Some commentators say this verse carries the

connotation that the inheritance is God. In other

words, we get God!!

I believe that is true. He becomes our father.

Psalm 16:5-6 (NLT) “Lord, you alone are my

inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is

mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land.

What a wonderful inheritance!”

Do you remember the hymn, “Now I Belong to

Jesus?” The chorus says,

“Now I belong to Jesus, and Jesus belongs to Me.

Not for the years of time alone, but for eternity.”

But what about now? I want it now.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and

His righteousness, and all these things shall be added

to you.”

“And my God shall supply all your need according to

His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Who is your daddy? There are only two.

John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the

desires of your father you want to do.”

Or is your father God - through Jesus Christ?
